How to Install GB WhatsApp on Android (2026)
This guide walks you through installing GB WhatsApp v18.80 (August 2026 update) on any Android phone — including the two steps most people skip and later regret: backing up chats and allowing unknown sources properly. The whole process takes about ten minutes.
Before You Start
- Android 5.0 or higher — check under Settings → About phone.
- A few hundred MB of free storage — the APK is roughly 70–100 MB depending on the build, and your chat backup needs room too.
- A phone number for verification — ideally a secondary one, since mod accounts carry a ban risk.
- Switching from official WhatsApp or an old GB build? Do Step 1 (backup) before anything else.
Note: GB WhatsApp and official WhatsApp can coexist on one phone (different package names), but not on the same number — verifying a number on GB WhatsApp logs that number out of the official app.
Step 1 — Back Up Your Chats
Coming from official WhatsApp: open WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup → Back up. A local backup is created on your phone even without Google Drive. Already on GB WhatsApp: GB Settings → Chats → Chat backup → Back Up.
For real safety, copy the whole WhatsApp (or GBWhatsApp) folder from internal storage to your PC or an SD card. That folder holds the Backups and Media directories — it's your only guaranteed restore path, because Google Drive restore is unreliable on mod builds.
Step 2 — Allow Installs from Unknown Sources
GB WhatsApp isn't on the Play Store, so Android needs your explicit permission to install its APK.
- Android 8.0 and newer: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → pick your browser (or file manager) → toggle Allow from this source.
- Android 7.x and older: Settings → Security → enable Unknown sources.
The permission is per-app on modern Android, so grant it only to the browser you downloaded with. You can revoke it after installation — a good habit.
Step 3 — Download the APK
Get GB WhatsApp v18.80 from our download page. Your browser will warn that the file "may be harmful" — that's the standard warning for any APK downloaded outside the Play Store, not a verdict on this file. Wait for the download to finish completely; a truncated file causes parse errors later.

Step 4 — Install the APK
Tap the completed download notification (or find the file in Downloads) → Install. Play Protect may pop up a warning because the app isn't Play-catalogued and is signed by the mod developer — expected for every mod; proceed only because you trust the source. If you see "App not installed", jump to the error table below.
Step 5 — Verify Your Phone Number
Open GB WhatsApp → Agree & Continue → enter your number in international format → wait for the SMS code. If the SMS doesn't arrive within the timer, use the Call me option. Remember: the number you verify here gets logged out of any official WhatsApp session on the same account.
Step 6 — Restore Your Chats
Right after verification, GB WhatsApp scans local storage and offers to restore the backup it finds. Tap Restore and let it finish — this can take several minutes for large chat histories. Do not tap Skip: without a Google Drive fallback on mods, skipped local backups are effectively gone. When the app opens, scroll through recent chats and spot-check that photos and videos came back.
Right After Installation
- Confirm the version: menu → GB Settings → About should show v18.80.
- Set a reminder to update every 2–3 months — old builds expire and get flagged more. Our update guide shows the no-data-loss path.
- Explore GB Settings → Privacy for the features you came for (hide online status, blue ticks, anti-revoke).
Common Install Errors
| Error | Cause & fix |
|---|---|
| App not installed | Signature conflict with an existing mod build, or low storage. Back up, uninstall the old build, reinstall — full path in the update guide. |
| Parse error | Corrupt or partial download. Re-download on a stable connection; also confirm Android 5.0+. |
| Verification code not received | Check the number format, disable VPN, wait for the timer and use Call me. |
| "This version has expired" | You installed an outdated build. Download v18.80 instead. |
FAQ
Is GB WhatsApp safe to install?
It carries real risks: WhatsApp can ban accounts using mods, end-to-end encryption is not guaranteed by a third-party client, and APKs from random sites have shipped malware before. Use a secondary number, download only from a trusted source, and scan the file with antivirus.
Can GB WhatsApp and official WhatsApp be installed together?
Yes. GB WhatsApp uses a different package name, so both apps can coexist on one phone — but each must be registered with a different phone number. Verifying the same number on GB WhatsApp logs it out of the official app.
Will I lose my chats when installing GB WhatsApp?
Not if you back up first and restore during setup. Create a local backup in your current app, and let GB WhatsApp restore it at the verification step. Google Drive backups are unreliable on mod builds, so the local backup file is what protects you.
Why does Play Protect warn me about the APK?
GB WhatsApp is not on the Play Store and is signed by the mod developer, not WhatsApp LLC, so Play Protect flags it as unrecognized. The warning is expected for any mod; only proceed because you trust the download source.
Do I need to uninstall official WhatsApp first?
No. The two apps install side by side because they have different package names. You only need to make sure each app uses its own phone number.
